Maidenhead 0 Welling 1

Sam Gargan's first half goal boosted Welling's Blue Square South survival bid at Maidenhead on Saturday.

The Wings moved five points clear of their rivals after deservedly taking maximum points at York Road.

The only goal of the game came after 20 minutes when Ellis Green cut inside and Gargan beat the offside trap before rounding keeper Chris Tardif to score.

The Wings dominated for long periods but failed to create many clear-cut chances and they were indebted to an outstanding Jamie Turner save just before half-time to keep them ahead.

Welling soaked up plenty of second half pressure but the hosts failed to create many openings despite winning a succession of corners.

The Wings had a penalty appeal turned down when Orlando Smith appeared to be tripped with 20 minutes left, but the visitors held on to delight a large number of travelling suporters.
