Points are paramount for Gillingham, says captain Adam Barrett - and he doesn't care how they get them

Gillingham captain Adam Barrett believes that results are all that matter.

Gills return to League 1 action at Sheffield United on Saturday as they look to drag themselves away from the bottom end of the standings.

And Barrett insists the performances will have to take second fiddle to points.

He said: “It’s about getting points – that’s the be all and end all, about getting as many points as we can.

“Even last season we had to grind results out to get the wins and I am sure everyone goes home a lot happier if we’ve won a game, even if we haven’t played that well.

“It’s our livelihoods, our careers and we want to make sure we stay in this division.

“I have been in games so many times where we’ve been the better team and come away with nothing and times when you haven’t played as well and got the three points. That’s what makes football so exciting to watch."
