Stones set to meet old rivals

GILLINGHAM continue their pre-season friendlies when they take a first team squad to play old adversaries Maidstone at Central Park tomorrow (Saturday).

Team boss Andy Hessenthaler has told his former team-mate Steve Butler, now the Stones' director of football, that all fit first-teamers would be involved in the match.

For the supporters the game is an opportunity to renew old rivalries from the days when both clubs were in the Football League.

Hessenthaler is likely to be without keeper Vince Bartram who dislocated his finger in the first half against Kingstonian on Wednesday. The injury is a blow for the player at a time when he is fighting to re-establish himself as first-choice over Jason Brown who was preferred to him for the final 10 games of last season. Youth team keeper Danny Knowles stands by to deputise for Bartram.

Saturday's game is in the main stadium and kicks-off at 1pm because the Central Park owners need time to prepare for an evening greyhound meeting. Tickets are priced at £5 adults and £3 concessions.
