KENT Olympian Gary Smith finished a creditable seventh in Athens in the Men’s indivdual trampolining at the weekend.

British champion Smith, 23, from Rainham, who represents the Jumpers Club in Gillingham, reached the final after a good round and scored 40.0 points in his first Olympics final.

Ukraine’s Yuri Nikitin beat off strong competition to claim the title. The 26-year-old notched 41.5 points to claim the title ahead of five-time world champion Russian Alexander Moskalenko, who scored 41.2.

Moskalenko had come out of retirement to defend the title he won at the Sydney Games.
