Scally: We'll struggle to pay fees for players

PAUL SCALLY: "We'll struggle to buy because we haven't got a lump sum"

GILLINGHAM chairman Paul Scally has admitted that there is little room in the budget for transfer fees during this month's transfer window.

Manager Ronnie Jepson wants to add two or three faces to his squad but it seems like he may have to scratch around for free transfers and non-contracted players.

Mr Scally said: "There is some money available in so far as wages, but we’ll struggle to buy because we haven’t got a lump sum."

A sum of money is available to the club from the Friends of Gillingham FC supporters’ club but Mr Scally admits it won’t buy a lot.

He added: "There is money there for us, around £8,000 and it’s just a phone call away. Unfortunately it’s not going to go far and would maybe pay for a player’s wage for three or four weeks.

"It wouldn’t buy a lot but I do appreciate the supporters’ efforts and their good intentions."
