Ryman League Premier Division round-up

It was a very poor day for Kent's Ryman League Premier Division sides on Saturday with none of them coming away from their respective matches with all three points.

In fact, only Ramsgate took anything at all as they drew 1-1 at Boreham Wood - and even then they relied on a late goal to snatch a point.

The home side took the lead just after the break through Luke Donnelly before Lee Minshull grabbed the equaliser seven minutes from time.

The Rams thought they should have had a penalty late on when Mo Takaloo appeared to be pulled back, but a draw is a decent away result at a side who started the day in 3rd place in the table.

Perhaps the strangest incident came in the other game in Thanet at Hartsdown Park where Margate were hammered 4-0 by Canvey Island.

Leon Gordon gave the visitors a 22nd minute lead but then came an incident that left club secretary Ken Tomlinson and I'm sure many others in the ground scratching their heads.

While warming up, Canvey substitute Danny Curran was shown two yellow cards in quick succession and sent off - but the visitors obviously didn't get reduced to 10 men and were still later permitted to make the maximum three substitutions.

If anyone knows what the ruling around substitute dismissals is, please tell us in the "Your comments" section at the bottom of this page.

Anyway, if that was one turning point the other major one came on the hour when Gate's Dan Young was controversially deemed to be the last man after pulling back John Curran and sent off - and to rub salt into the wounds, Dave Lee scored from the resulting free kick.

Kevin Dobinson made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after Tom Hickman had fouled Curran and the scoring was completed four minutes from time when Curran himself capitalised on a bad defensive error.

Meanwhile, Dover lost their 100 per cent start and conceded their first goal of the campaign as they went down 1-0 at AFC Hornchurch.

Lee Hodges got the only goal of the game in the 34th minute as the Whites produced a disappointing display on the road.

Dartford also failed to find the back of the net as they were beaten 2-0 by Hastings at Princes Park.

The opening goal was scrambled home by midfielder Antonio Gonnella on 13 minutes before Sam Adams sent a speculative effort from distance over keeper Tony Kessell's head midway through the second half.

Maidstone surrendered a lead as they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Harlow.

Elliot Bradbrook's excellent free-kick gave the Stones a deserved 38th minute lead - but the visitors equalised against the run of play in first half stoppage time Jamie Richards headed Mark Taylor's cross past keeper Andy Walker.

The winner came on 57 minutes when Taylor netted with a stunning set piece after Ian Cox had fouled Richards on the edge of the area.

United were given a lifeline when Leon Lalite saw red after appearing to headbutt Bradbrook but the home side failed to find the equaliser in the closing stages.

Tonbridge failed to recover from a poor first half display as they went down to their first defeat of the season against Staines at Longmead.

The visitors opened the scoring on 26 minutes when Elliot Onochie latched onto Dave Sargent's through ball and finished past Angels keeper Lee Worgan - and Dean Thomas's header had made it 2-0 before half-time.

Tonbridge improved after the break and pulled one back on the hour through Ade Olorunda but they had given themselves too much to do.
