Results leave cricket teams tougue-tied

IN an amazing chain of events on Saturday, both of Eynsford's cricket teams tied their respective first league games against Bidborough.

The first team elected to bat at home and openers Gary Atkins (27) and Ben Wise (38) saw Ford in good shape at 93-2. Mike Harding (3-22) however sent them into a collapse which saw them 105-6.

Greg Playfoot arrived to play a superb knock of 56 not out including 24 off the final over as Eynsford reached an acceptable 186-7 from 40 overs.

Bidborough's reply was littered with four run-outs but Harding (27), Moore (48) and Mitchell (21) kept them in the hunt. With 26 needed off 12 balls two crucial sixes were struck and the final ball was driven firmly at skipper Paul Smyth who did well to make a crucial stop. Smyth (2-25) and Playfoot (2-38) topped the bowling figures.

In the reverse fixture at Bidborough, the Eynsford 2nd team, chasing 178 for victory, scrambled two off the final ball to once again leave the scores tied.
