Tottenham 2 Charlton 3

CHARLTON'S first away win in the Barclays Premiership in a gripping London derby at Tottenham on Saturday was acclaimed by manager Alan Curbishley as a "fantastic performance".

Two-goal Shaun Bartlett, who was later sent off for handling on the goalline, plus another from the exciting Jerome Thomas, earned Charlton their first away win on the road since the 1-0 success at Liverpool on April 12, when Bartlett was again their match-winner.

Though managerless Spurs hit back with two goals from Robbie Keane (penalty) and Jermain Defoe, resolute Charlton held on for a deserved win.

Curbishley said: "Give our players the credit they deserve. I could not have asked any more of them in that first hour when we produced a great performance.

"To find yourselves 3-0 up away from home is quite something. At 3-0 I thought we looked quite comfortable but then this game has a habit has a habit of rising up and biting you back. So not only do we have a man sent off but they score a goal as well, which lifted the temperature of the game.

"The Spurs fans, who had been subdued until then, really got behind their side and we had it all to do to hang on. But our first hour was fantastic and I'm delighted to take all three points."

He added: "We've not been happy with the criticism we've been getting but there is only one way to get people off your back and that's to go and get some results."
