Moving on after goalie's swift departure

Invicta Dynamos' stalwart Ian Rowlands is set to renew his battle with Glen Jackson for the number one position between the Invicta pipes, after head coach Kevin Parrish moved quickly to fill the void left by the departed Michael Gray.

Rowlands’ re-signing, following a change in his work arrangements, couldn’t come soon enough for Parrish’s team, after Gray’s walk-out last weekend left them desperately short of goalie cover.

"I got a phone call last Saturday evening from Michael," Parrish explained. "He told me that he wanted to leave and that he wouldn’t be going to Milton Keynes with the team the following day.

"It’s not the kind of call you want the night before a game. He basically came out with a bundle of excuses about not fitting in with the rest of the team. From where I was standing I think as soon as he found out he’d have to work for his place in the team he didn’t look interested. After the second training session he didn’t look like he wanted to be here and after I pulled him half way through the Cardiff defeat I think his mind was made up.

"We move on though. We are lucky that Glen has been in such good form and that a replacement as good as Ian has been able to come in, as I was down as the back-up goalie last Sunday and it would have been the same this Sunday.

"As long as Ian’s registration is sorted by the league in time he will be in the squad this Sunday. It’ll then be down to Ian and Glen to fight it out for the number one spot."

Jackson should get the nod on Sunday after his man-of-the-match display, while nursing an injured arm, helped Invicta defeat Milton Keynes 5-2 in the cup last Sunday.

Peterborough Islanders will be lining up to test Jackson, as Invicta look continue their winning streak in the ENIHL Cup.

"Our cup form has been excellent so far," Parrish said. "And we owe Peterborough after they defeated us in the play-offs last season. A win would give us a great chance of qualifying from the group."
