Khan's World Cup hopes dashed

NO PLACE: Amjad Khan
NO PLACE: Amjad Khan

KENT strike bowler Amjad Khan has missed out on his World Cup dream after being overlooked for England’s 15-man squad to contest next month’s event in the Caribbean.

Khan, the county’s leading wicket-taker in 2006, was named in England’s initial 30-man party just days after qualifying for British citizenship, but he missed the cut following this week's selection meeting.

At the age of 36, former Kent wicketkeeper Paul Nixon is the squad’s sole gloveman, while Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara is preferred to Lancashire’s pinch-hitting opening bat Mal Loye.

England squad: Vaughan (capt), Joyce, Bell, Pietersen, Strauss, Collingwood, Flintoff, Bopara, Nixon, Dalrymple, Plunkett, Anderson, Mahmood, Lewis, Panesar.
