Bristol City 0 Charlton 1

MANAGER Alan Pardew acclaimed his side's second solid performance in four days as Charlton became the first side to win at Ashton Gate since March.

Chris Iwelumo, who scored Saturday's winner in stoppage time at Southampton, did it again on Tuesday with a goal 30 seconds from the end as he rose to head home skipper Andy Reid's precision cross to deflate second placed City.

"That was another solid performance," said Pardew. "Six points and two clean sheets, you can't ask for anything more.

"We were so good in the first half when we dominated and should have scored.

"Coming in level at half-time was a disappointment because we created so many chances.

"Bristol City had a fantastic period in the second half but we stood up, stayed with the system and got the result which I believe we deserved."

Iwelumo should have scored in the second minute but failed to make a firm connection on Jerome Thomas's cross.

Sam Sodje, Reid and Zheng Zhi went close before City came out for the second half far more determined.

Most of the second period was played in Charlton's half with the defence under sustained pressure.

A draw looked likely until Jonathan Fortune played in Reid who provided the cross of the game for Iwelumo to score his sixth goal of the season.

Charlton: Weaver; Mills, Sodje, Fortune, Basey; Sam (Varney 46mins), Racon (Bougherra 90mins), Zheng(Ambrose 77mins), Reid; Iwelumo. Substitutes not used: Randolph, Moutaouakil.

Attendance: 15,420
