Port Vale 0 - 0 Gillingham

GILLINGHAM came away from Vale Park with a hard-earned point on Tuesday night.

Neale Cooper's side faced a barrage of pressure, but hung on to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

The home side created a host of chances, but frustrated their supporters with a poor performance in front of goal.

Gills' main threat came from Darren Byfield, but they could have nicked it in the final minute as Andrew Crofts glanced a header inches wide.

Vale's striker Nathan Lowndes should have had the game wrapped up long before, but he found no way past Jason Brown despite a couple of close shaves.

The point puts Gillingham fourth in the League 1 table.

Gillingham: Brown, Rose, Hope, Cox, Jackman, Hessenthaler (Jarvis 71), Pouton (Corneielle 84), Flynn, Crofts, Spiller (Shields 59), Byfield. Subs Not Used: Knowles, Johnson.

Attendance: 4,931.
