GILLINGHAM goalkeeper Jason Brown has spoken of his delight at receiving his first senior Welsh call-up.

Brown, who hasn’t featured for Wales since playing for the under-21s two years ago, will join the squad for the World Cup Group 6 qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan.

He said: "It’s a great honour. Over the last two years it’s been very difficult with not playing and being injured but hopefully this is just reward for all the hard work I’ve put in.

"I’m looking forward to it and hopefully I can acquit myself well."

Brown was on the verge of leaving Gillingham at the start of the season, following the arrival of Dundee’s Tony Bullock but manager Neale Cooper was delighted that he was able to keep hold of the 23-year-old.

Cooper said: "He thoroughly deserves the call-up as he’s been excellent for us. He’s been one of our best players."
