Dean Standen's contract has been terminated by Margate

MARGATE are due to find out this week whether midfielder Dean Standen will appeal against the club’s decision to terminate his contract following an incident after the 3-1 Ryman League Premier Division home win over Staines at Hartsdown Park on February 16.

The Thanet club’s directors took the decision at an emergency board meeting last week, after Standen pulled off his shirt and jumped a barrier to confront a spectator who he believed had been abusing him during the game.

Letters were sent to the player, the Ryman League and the Football Association, stating the reasons why the 25-year-old midfielder’s contract had been terminated, and he has until the end of this week to decide whether to take the matter further.

Standen made 25 appearances in a season affected by injuries and suspensions, including a four-game ban after being sent off against Ramsgate on Boxing Day.
