Combe pay price for second half display

WESTCOMBE Park had a lacklustre second half performance to blame for a 38-10 defeat at Wharfdale on Saturday in National League Two.

Combe only trailed 7-3 at the interval but, with their mid-table position giving them little to play for, Wharfdale ran riot after the break.

Combe actually opened the scoring when James Whittingham scored a seventh-minute penalty.

Wharfdale replied with a try on 20 minutes from Chris Steele, converted by Andrew Baggett. That’s the way it stayed until the 46th minute when Simon Horsfall went over with Baggett again successfully converting.

Steele scored his second try on 51 minutes with Baggett again converting, before Marc Bedworth’s unconverted try on the hour extended the lead.

Tom Hayman pulled a try back on 66 minutes, which Whittingham converted, but Wharfdale bagged two tries in the last two minutes with Bedworth and Horsfall both scoring.
