ASHFORD and District Roadrunners are expecting another capacity field for their popular 10km road run, which takes place on February 5.

The club limit their field to 500 for safety reasons and rarely have openings for runners trying to enter on the day.

Top Kent man Mike Coleman is expected to make a bid to complete a hat-trick of wins and an effort on Spencer Barden’s 1997 course record of 30:05 set in 1997.

He went close last year with 30:23 while the women’s record fell last year to talented young runner Charlotte Dale, who clocked a superb 32:13.

Sponsors this year again include Park Mall Shopping Centre and Sweatshop but they always welcome all support for one of the premier early season races in the county.

The event is based at the Sandyacres Sports Club and the course is a fast and scenic route around the narrow roads that go through Westwell.

The club is known for providing memorable mementos of the run presented to all runners at the finish. It is the 18th running of the event, which has grown in popularity over the years.
