Woman kicked in face in robbery bid

DETECTIVES are investigating after a 32-year-old woman was injured in an attempted street robbery. The incident happened as two friends were walking home after an evening out.

As they walked past Chatham Railway Station they noticed a man walking towards them. They were suspicious of him but carried on walking in the direction of Dale Street.

The two friends had a bag interlinked between their arms when the man made a grab for it and pushed one of the women. She lost her footing on the kerb and fell on to the ground.

The offender then kicked the 32-year-old in the face. He then told the other woman to give him the bag but she fell over her friend who was still on the ground. The woman started to scream and the offender then walked back towards the town centre.

The 32-year-old received a cut lip and bruising to her ribs. Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack between 2.40am and 3.10am on Sunday.

The man is described as being aged between 20 and 25, 5ft 9ins tall and of slim build. He was wearing blue jeans and white trainers and a short cream hooded jacket with fur around the collar and hood.

Anyone who may have seen something or who may have information in connection with this incident is asked to contact Medway Police on 01634 884252 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. All calls to Crimestoppers are free and are treated in the strictest of confidence.
