A WOMAN has died in hospital after falling from a footbridge over the M20 (Rudolf Richter writes).

The woman, who was in her thirties and from the Maidstone area, suffered serious head injuries in the fall on Wednesday and died later the same day at Maidstone Hospital.

Police say they were not treating the death as suspicious.

They had received a number of calls from motorists who reported seeing a young woman standing on the wrong side of the barrier.

The coastbound carriageway of the motorway, just past junction two at Wrotham, was closed for 40 minutes after the woman fell onto the road. She was taken to Maidstone Hospital by air ambulance.

The woman has not yet been identified. An inquest will be held.
