Witness appeal in pensioner assault

A PENSIONER was attacked as she walked home with her shopping in Whitstable.

The 73-year-old was walking down an alleyway between Valkyrie Avenue and Joy Lane on Saturday afternoon when her attacker struck, grabbing her and pushing her to the ground.

The woman shouted for help and her assailant, thought to be a youth aged about 17, ran off towards Joy Lane.

He is described as white, wearing a two-tone hooded top and carrying a red and yellow golfing umbrella. The man is believed to have had a yellow and green packed in his hand that may have been rolling tobacco.

His victim was extremely upset by the assault but physically unharmed and police are now looking for witnesses.

Anyone who was near the alley at 3pm on Saturday who may have seen the incident should call Det Sgt Michelle Whitehead on 01227 762055.
