Director of cricket Paul Farbace offered no excuses after seeing the Kent Spitfires crash to a 93-run defeat to Yorkshire Carnegie in the Clydesdale Bank 40 at the St Lawrence Ground on Sunday.

Kent left themselves with a big task after allowing Yorkshire to amass an above par total of 254 in which captain Andrew Gale hit 112.

Farbace said: “He (Gale) played really well, but we gave him so many balls to hit.

“They showed that it was a wicket that if you bowl straight with a good length then it was hard to hit. We didn’t learn and bowled poorly throughout their innings.”

He added: "We could say they had four international bowlers in their side and we have got a youngish team, but we didn’t do our basics well enough and we have no excuses whatsoever.”

He added: “I thought our fielding was fantastic, but bowling-wise we were poor.”

Kent ended up being all out for 161 with Darren Stevens top-scoring with 39.
