Washed-up fireworks detonated on beach

ARMY bomb disposal experts were called to Botany Bay at Kingsgate, near Margate, after commercial fireworks were washed up on the beach.

Police officers cordoned off the beach after a beachgoer discovered a crate containing 24 tubes with wires coming out of them just after midday on Wednesday.

Members of the Emergency Ordinance Disposal team fond that half the tubes had already been fired. The remainder were deemed unstable and were detonated in a controlled explosion on the beach.

Police officers are making enquiries to try to find out where the fireworks came from.
