Cabinet Minister Lord Adonis paid a fleeting visit to Medway
today.

Secretary of State for Transport Lord Adonis went to Riverside
Country Park in Gillingham to urge Liberal Democrats to vote for
Paul Clark.

He said: "This is a two-horse race
between Labour and the Conservatives here. The Liberal Democrats,
who are close to Labour, will not want to see a Tory elected here
in Gillingham, which will happen unless they rally around
Paul."

Also at the event this morning was former Medway mayor and
Liberal Democrat Dai Liyanage, who said: "I am not changing parties
I want the local Liberal Democrats to vote for Paul Clark and to
show support for him as a person."

Lord Adonis also spoke about Boris Johnson's plans for an
airport in the Thames Estuary, which he called "mad".

The minister also visited Ebbsfleet and Sittingbourne during the
tour.
