A COUPLE who both have terminal cancer have won a television competition to renew their wedding vows on Valentine’s Day.

Jeff and Lisa Martin received the most votes as they battled it out with two other couples on GMTV.

The couple, from Bexleyheath, will celebrate their second wedding day in Gretna Green on Wednesday.

In February 2004, firefighter Jeff collapsed at work and was later diagnosed with a brain tumour, and the following February his wife, Lisa, was told she had breast and secondary bone cancer.

Mrs Martin, a former teaching assistant who was recently named Tesco Magazine’s Courageous Mum of the Year, also has another reason why she wants to renew her vows.

On the couple’s wedding day, the young and nervous bride stepped on her wedding dress at the altar, causing it to rip and undo the poppers on her train, leading to a glimpse of the bride’s underwear.

The couple will now get to renew their vows in the candlelit Anvil Hall on the Scottish/English border. Their sons George, nine, and Jack, five, are due to join in their parents’ special day, along with their two aunties.

Mr Martin said: "We are both really happy. It will be a really nice and special day with our boys and the family."
