Trucker dies at scene of four-vehicle smash

A man has died following a crash involving two lorries and two cars on a major road in the county.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A228 at Hoo, near the junction with Ropers Lane, at around 6.50am.

The four vehicles are understood to have collided near a roundabout. The driver of one of the lorries was pronounced dead at the scene.

The circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated.

Police have closed both carriageways of the Ratcliffe Highway, the main road into and out of the Isle of Grain leading to traffic delays.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and take alternative routes.

All the casualties were male. Firefighters used hydraulic cutting gear to free the driver of one of the trucks.

The driver of the other lorry was unhurt with the drivers of both cars suffering minor injuries. All were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police would like to speak to the occupants of a black Saab who may have witnessed the collision.
