Tragedy as bike rider crashes onto rail track

A MOTORCYLIST was killed and his pillion passenger injured after their machine crashed into metal fencing bordering the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.

The tragedy happened at the junction with Station Approach Road and Queens Road, New Romney in the early hours of Friday.

The motorcycle, a Kawasaki Ninja, the driver and the pillion passenger crashed through the fence and came to a stop on the railway track.

The driver, a 24-year-old local man, sustained serious injuries and died at Ashford's William Harvey Hospital.

The passenger, an 18 year-old man from Appledore, suffered a broken leg and ankle and was also taken to the William Harvey Hospital.

Kent Police's crash investigation unit is appealing for witnesses to telephone 01622 798538.
