A former agricultural economics professor has won a national award.

Allan Buckwell received the honour from the Royal Agricultural Society of England for his commitment to advancing the industry.

Professor Buckwell, who lives in Whitstable, studied at Wye College during the 1960s and spent 15 years working there before joining the Country, Land and Business Association as policy director.

He said: “I’ve been privileged to work on food, farming and countryside issues throughout my career.

“I was surprised and delighted to be nominated for this award.”

CLA deputy president William Worsley said it was well-deserved.

“We are thrilled that Allan has been recognised in this way,” he said. “It is one of the most prestigious awards in its field.”
