A man accused of murder following a fatal shooting in a village has appeared in court.

Kenneth Batchelor, 50, of Hendon Cottages, Chilham, is alleged to have killed former nightclub doorman Matt Clements on November 18 last year.

Mr Clements, who worked as a doorman in Ashford, was living in Tenterden at the time of his death.

Batchelor spoke only to confirm his name during the brief preliminary hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday.

He was released on bail with conditions of residence and reporting to police. He will return to court on July 21 when he is expected to enter a plea to the charge.
