Students boldly go to summer school

MEDWAY children will be walking with robots and learning the secrets of intergalactic exploration at a hi-tech summer school.

The University of Kent at Medway's electronics department is offering pupils aged between 14 and 18 a chance to learn about robotics and the design of intelligent systems at its Canterbury campus.

Schools are being sent details of the event, which takes place between August 2 and 4, and there will be 80 places available for pupils. This is the first Walking with Robots residential summer school.

A university spokesman said: "They will work together to design an intelligent vehicle and discover how difficult it is to control a Mars Rover from Earth, just as the UK's first lander Beagle 2 heads to the surface of the Red Planet."
