Kevin Lisbie has joined Leyton Orient on a four-month contract despite interest from Gillingham.

Lisbie, who spent a brief and successful loan spell with the Gills in 1999, was out of contract after being released by Ipswich in the summer.

Gills fans would have been keen to see the striker return to Priestfield with 84% of supporters saying they would like to see him back in our online poll last week.

Lisbie expressed his interest at joining the Gills, dismissing reports elsewehere that he had ruled out dropping down to League 2, and boss Andy Hessenthaler was keeping tabs on the situation.

"I told him we would like him to come to Gillingham if there is a possibility," said Hessenthaler of the 33-year-old striker.

He opted instead to join the O’s in League 1 on a short-term deal at the end of last week. Lisbie made his debut for Orient on Saturday and started in their 1-1 draw at Colchester.
