Simon King had arguably the hardest job at Wembley on Saturday as he attempted to keep League 2's leading scorer quiet.

It was a tough assignment for Gills’ player-of-the-season, but with 28-goal striker Grant Holt drawing a blank, it was mission accomplished for the 26-year-old.

King said: "I know what he’s all about and I’ve played against him a few times now.

"We knew that if we could keep him quiet we had more than enough ability going forward. We knew we had to do our job and then we could go and win the game.

"You are always going to be in a battle with him physically. He’s a big unit and it’s always going to be tough but we kept him fairly quiet."

The win at Wembley was extra special for King after he endured play-off heartbreak while at Barnet against the same side.

He said: "I’ve got a bit of history with Shrewsbury in the past with Barnet in the play-offs and being knocked out so that was extra special, especially with a lot of friends and family up at Wembley.

"It was a great occasion, a great day and a great performance from the lads who were unbelievable throughout.

"We put a lot of hard graft in this season and we got our just rewards. We’ve given everything and fortunately on the day it was good enough."
