Sex pest pensioner gets seven years

LONELY: Peter Martin
LONELY: Peter Martin

A PENSIONER plied young teenage girls with drink then abused them in what a Crown Court judge called "disgusting behaviour".

Two girls, both under 16 at the time, claimed Peter Martin had showered with them and touched them indecently or made them touch him when they visited his home at New Road, Cliffe, near Rochester.

Canterbury Crown Court was told 66-year-old Martin was lonely after his wife had left him.

One of the girls became a regular visitor and Martin allowed her to stay. Sometimes she would bring a friend.

Martin was on trial on 10 charges of indecent assault or indecency with a child over a period between February 1998 and March 2002. He was cleared on one allegation of indecent assault and one charge of indecency with a child but convicted of the remaining eight.

He was jailed for seven years and will be on the sex offender's register indefinitely.

Jailing Martin, Judge Anthony Webb said Martin had abused a position of trust. "I now have to sentence you for your disgusting behaviour in your 60s, a man of your age behaving in a frightful way towards young girls."
