Raiders may be contaminated with dye

AT LEAST five robbers using several vehicles are thought to have been involved in a raid on a ATM outside a shop in Wainscott Road, Wainscott, near Rochester.

Detectives say the incident occurred between 2.20am and 2.25am on Saturday, December 30.

Inquiries are underway to find out how much, if any, money was taken.

Four of the robbers were wearing dark clothing and hooded tops. The other was reported to be wearing light coloured clothing.

Police media officer Sally Smith said: "About three hours after the incident a Jeep was recovered in the Gravesend area.

"A 4x4 thought to have been involved in the raid was stolen from Essex. Another 4x4 has not been found by police. However it is believed that it would have damage to the rear where it had reversed into the shop."

Det Sgt Terry Easterby said: "We believe that the people involved in this crime may have been contaminated with a dye used in the ATM.

"I would like to appeal to people to be mindful of this and contact us if they have any suspicions about someone they know."
