The nature of Danny Spiller's Gillingham future should be decided this week with talks taking place between the player and the club.

The 29-year-old has played 20 games so far this season for the Gills since returning in the summer but his deal expires on Friday.

Spiller (pictured) and manager Andy Hessenthaler met with chairman Paul Scally on Wednesday to discuss an offer that had been made to the player and the Gills boss was hoping to have negotiations concluded as soon as possible.

"We want to get him sorted, ready and focused and get his mind on Stevenage and not anything else," said Hessenthaler.

"I would like to think he will stay at the football club until the end of the season and who knows, maybe beyond that.

"The lad wants to stay, I’m sure he does and hopefully he will be in the team against Stevenage."
