A MAN was critically ill in hospital on Friday following a shooting incident at a marina.

Armed police cordoned off the Stargate Marine in Hoo, near Rochester, on Thursday evening after a man was reported to have been shot.

The 27-year-old victim was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham with wounds to his stomach.

Police said this morning that he was in a critical condition.

Trained negotiators were called in to speak to a 49-year-old man on one of the boats in the marina at about 7.30pm.

A firearm was recovered by police at the scene.

The scene was still cordoned off on Friday morning as police officers and forensic experts continued their inquiries into the incident.

The boatyard is mainly home to Thames Sailing Barges and houseboats.

A man was arrested at around 12.45am on Friday and is now in custody at a police station.
