Man seriously hurt in truck and van crash

A 62-year-old man suffered serious injuries after a crash on the A249 near the Kent county showground at Detling.

Police were called at 8.10am on Saturday morning after a collision between a volvo lorry and a white Vaxhall van.

The Sittingbourne carriageway was closed to allow the Kent Air Ambulance to land, but reopened at 10.45am.

The injured man, who is from Sittingbourne, was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

The Maidstone-bound carriageway was closed for much of the afternoon causing heavy traffic in the area.

Kent Police have asked witnesses to the crash to call 01622 798538.
