Man critical after car hits wall

A MAN is today still fighting for his life in hospital after a road accident in St Leonard’s Street at West Malling, near Maidstone.

Police were called to the scene just after 3am yesterday. Only one car was involved, a silver Ford Focus.

The driver escaped with only minor injuries but the passenger received a serious head injury and was unconscious.

Both men were taken to Maidstone Hospital. The passenger was later transferred to a London hospital. His condition has been described as "stable but critical".

The driver of the car has been released from hospital. Police believe he lost control of the vehicle, hit the curb and bounced into a wall. They are continuing to investigate.

The road was blocked off in both directions as a result of the accident. It reopened at about 7.15am.
