A RAPE victim finally sees justice as her attacker is jailed more than 14 years after the offence.

Ricky Anthony Brown from St Mary Cray was found guilty for raping a 49-year-old woman in 1992. He will be sentenced on February 23 at Croydon Crown Court.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, met Brown in a launderette in Carlton Parade, Orpington, on December 10, 1992. They were talking and the woman agreed to go home with him "for a drink and a chat".

Shortly after leaving the shop, Brown grabbed his victim and put his hand over her mouth in a nearby alleyway after she had become concerned and tried to walk away from him.

She fell to the ground and Brown threatened her that he had a knife if she screamed. He then indecently assaulted and raped her.

After the attack, the woman went to a nearby shop to call for assistance. Police carried out extensive inquiries and one man was arrested in 1993 but was eliminated from the inquiry.

Detectives arrested Brown, of Rookery Gardens, on suspicion of rape on August 24, 2005, following a review of the case. His arrest was based on advances in DNA science.
