Man bailed after murder questioning

THE man arrested in Margate in relation to the murder of a woman in Eastbourne has been bailed.

The 26-year-old was questioned by Sussex police over the sexually assault and stabbing of the women who was also set alight in a shelter on the town’s seafront. He has been bailed until Tuesday, April 12, pending further enquiries.

Jennifer Kiely’s burning body was found by council workers at the Holywell area of Eastbourne in the early hours of Saturday, January 22.

Police had to resort to dental records to identify the 35-year-old who was originally from London but had been living in the town for a while.

A post-mortem was carried out on the mother-of-three and found that she had been stabbed in the torso 16 times before being set alight.

Miss Keily has lived in Canterbury and spent time at the city’s open Centre for homeless people before moving to the seaside town a few months ago.

Police said Miss Keily has lived at a number of addresses in the town and had kept herself to herself.

She stayed with friends but occasionally resorted to sleeping rough.

Near Miss Keily’s body was a burnt out buggy that it is thought either held her possessions, was used to move her body to the site or could possibly have already been at the scene.

Sussex Police are now keen to speak to the driver of a vehicle that swerved to avoid a man walking down the middle of Compton Street in Eastbourne at around 3am on Saturday, January 22. Officers think they may be able to provide vital information.

A £10,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can provide information that leads to a conviction of Miss Kiely murderer.

Anyone with information is asked to call 0845 60 70 999 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
