PARENT groups and schools keen to find out more about Walking Buses can now turn to a website created by the Kent Messenger Group.

The Walking Bus website is now live. It offers both guidance to schools hoping to set up a 'bus', as well as news and events of the current schemes operating around the county.

A profile and photo of each Walking Bus is included on the site to help promote the schools involved.

This will also give head teachers and scheme co-ordinators the chance to give tips, guidance and advice on how to get a 'bus' started to make the job even easier for those following in their footsteps.

Organisations and schools involved in child road safety initiatives or family-orientated healthy walk promotions can have details of their events added to the site free of charge by contacting Simon Dolby, chairman of the Walking Bus Group, through the site.

County council road safety officers, who work alongside the Walking Bus Group to promote the initiative, also have contact details on the site allowing the viewer access to the full range of professionals involved with Walking Buses in the county.

The address for the Walking Bus site is: www.kentonline.co.uk/walkingbus

Mr Dolby said: "We are extremely grateful to the Kent Messenger Group for creating this website for us. The company's New Media department has created something that is lively in design and comprehensive in its content.

"I have no doubt this will be a very useful source of information for those interested in the subject.

"The site includes a fun zone for children which has an interactive road safety game.

Mr Dolby added: "We are currently preparing a number of grant applications to develop the services we offer, part of which will be to further develop the website by expanding this children's fun zone."
