KENT Police appealing for witnesses after an horrific accident on one of the county's most dangerous roads.

A car and a heavy goods vehicle were involved in the crash on the A228 Ratcliffe Highway outside the Windmill pub, Hoo, near Rochester. It was the 32nd death crash on notorious A228 in 20 years.

The accident happened on Saturday morning at a blackspot known locally as the Windmill Bends. It claimed the life of a young man in his teens or early 20s. Police have not yet named him, but by Sunday morning a tribute "To Anthony" had been left at the scene.

The car and lorry collided outside the Windmill pub and a crew from Strood Fire and Rescue Service had to cut the car driver free. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the accident, the road was closed in both directions from the Bells Lane junction with the Ratcliffe Highway to the Grain Road junction with the main A228 at Hoo. Officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene.

Witnesses are asked to contact Kent Police on 01622 600970.
