Kent spinner James Tredwell has been named in England’s World Twenty20 squad.

The tournament, which takes place in the West Indies, gets under way at the end of this month with England playing matches against Ireland and the hosts in their group at the start of May.

The final is due to take place on May 16 so Tredwell could miss up to a month of Kent’s season.

Tredwell, pictured, said: "I’m naturally delighted to earn selection for the World t20. Being part of the tour of Bangladesh, and making my Test and ODI debut, was a great thing for me. Now I want to really take it forward.

"This is good recognition for both me and Kent cricket. I guess it shows that I must be doing something right to maintain my place in the national squad.”

Tredwell is one of two frontline spinners named in England’s 15-man squad with Graeme Swann also selected. However, Tredwell’s county colleagues, skipper Rob Key and Joe Denly both missed out on selection.

Key, who was in England’s World Twenty20 squad last summer, and Denly – who featured in the short format of the game during the winter in South Africa – were both overlooked by the selectors.
