CLASS ACT: Pupils at Gillingham's Arden Junior School
CLASS ACT: Pupils at Gillingham's Arden Junior School

ARDEN Junior School in Gillingham has obtained top marks for providing a calm and caring environment for its pupils (Caroline Chick writes).

The school has also been praised by Ofsted inspectors for supporting pupils in their learning environment.

Head teacher Linda Edwards and her staff were complimented for their commitment to encouraging a positive ethos at the school where all students are valued.

Inspectors were impressed by the quality of teaching and the lack of disruption to classes caused by changes in teaching staff.

However, they did comment on the low attainment in English, science and mathematics and felt while teachers work relentlessly to encourage parents to support their children’s education, they could do more.

The staff at the school in Cornwall Road have already set up a programme to address these areas and parents were sent a plan of action this week.

Highlighted for gold stars were six areas including the school’s excellent leadership and management, varied curriculum and good teaching. Governors were also praised for their pledge to the school’s development.
