Jams as lorry crashes on M25

TRAFFIC was severely disrupted early today after a lorry carrying newspapers shed its load across the westbound carriageway of the M25 on the Kent-Surrey border.

All three lanes were blocked in the morning peak period for about two hours and motorists were forced to filter past on the hard shoulder.

The accident led to heavy traffic on the A25 between Sevenoaks and Godstone via Westerham and Oxted as motorists sought an alternative route. The M25 and A25 run virtually parallel along this stretch.

The Clacket Lane service station near Westerham was closed to drivers while the scene was cleared.
