Welling manager Jamie Day has released striker Tommy Whitnell after he asked to leave the club.

Whitnell spoke to Day (pictured) at training on Tuesday and they agreed to part company.

"Tommy spoke to me earlier in the week and expressed his desire to be playing regularly," said Day.

"Obviously, Andy Pugh and Luis Cumbers have been in excellent form so far and Tommy hasn't had the opportunities that he was hoping for. I've agreed to de-register him."

Day also expressed his delight at being able to pick Lee Clarke and Loick Pires after the Wings were able to re-register them, although he admitted the five-point deduction is a blow to his squad.

"Maybe the good start that we've made has softened the blow of losing points," he said.

"But it will just make me more determined to get them points back on the board and move back up the table as quickly as possible.

"It's great to have Lee and Loick registered and we're delighted to have them available for the game with Woking this Saturday."
