Welling picked up thier first win of the season with an impressive 3-1 win at Blue Square Bet South title favourites Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday.

Both sides found chances hard to come by in the first half although Jack Parkinson should have given Welling a sixth-minute lead when he hesitated in the box and saw his low effort blocked.

Havant's best chance came seven minutes before the break when Sammy Igoe crossed for Wes Fogden, but the former Dorchester man somehow blasted the ball wide from close range with an early miss of the season contender.

Both teams had chances at the start of the second half - Andy Pugh being denied by keeper Aaron Howe and Andy Sambrook clearing off the line from Mustafa Tiryaki at the other end - before Loui Fazackerley put Welling ahead in the 49th minute.

Parkinson fed Jack Obestellar down the left wing and his cross was missed by Joe Healy, only for Fazackerley to make no mistake at the far post.

Havant were back on level terms four minutes later, however, Bobby Hopkinson tucking away a spot-kick after Parkinson had tripped substitute Harvey Whyte.

Parkinson should have restored Welling's advantage in the 69th minute but he was denied by Howe after good work from Cumbers.

But the Welling skipper, again playing in midfield, made no mistake nine minutes from time when he powerfully headed home Obestellar's deep corner.

Player/manager Jamie Day wrapped up the points with two minutes left when, after Pugh had been felled, he curled a 25-yard free-kick around the wall and past Howe to wrap up a deserved three points for his team.

Welling now host Chelmsford at Park View Road on Tuesday night.

Bromley maintained their 100 per cent start to the Blue Square Bet South season with a 2-1 win at Hampton & Richmond.

A Jerome Sobers header in stoppage time grabbed all three points for the Lillywhites. The central defender pounced on a loose shot from Paul Vines, after clever work from Warren McBean.

Vines put the visitors ahead just before half time when he glanced a header into the back of the net from Tony Finn's free kick on 43 minutes.

Hampton levelled the scores on 56 minutes as striker David Tarpey fired a low shot into the bottom corner past keeper Wes Foderingham.

Hero of the day Sobers almost became the villain before his winning goal, when he gave away a penalty for handball on 72 minutes. Foderingham saved his blushes though with a fine save, before tipping over the following corner.

Both Chelmsford City and Bromley sit proud at the top of the table after three wins from three games.
