Gillingham travel to Hartlepool on Tuesday night hoping to finally end their away-day gloom.

Fresh faces were brought in before the weekend to change things around and Gills boss Mark Stimson will be hoping they have the desired effect at the Victoria Ground in League 1.

Last week’s defeat in the FA Cup at Accrington saw Gillingham’s away performances sink to a new low – it was the Gills’ 14th away trip and 12th defeat.

They have just two points on the road in the league from a possible 39.

Luke Rooney, pictured, will be vying for a starting role after impressing at Priestfield on Saturday and fellow teenager Jack Payne should also keep his place.

Fellow midfielder Curtis Weston (hip) has been described as "touch and go" to face 14th-placed Hartlepool.

Andy Barcham (knee) came through 83 minutes unscathed against Colchester and he should be fit for another start.

Simon Locke is expected to replace Simon Royce (knee) as the back-up keeper while Kevin Maher could return to the 18-man squad.

Hartlepool have lost their last three games but are one of only two sides to have beaten the Gills in the league at Priestfield this season, winning the reverse fixture 1-0 in August.
