Gillingham fans are eager for their side to start putting wins on the board as the race for the League 2 promotion and play-off places hots up. Our panel largely expect the Gills to break their run of away draws at Cheltenham on Sunday afternoon.

SAM LIVINGSTONE

Pangbourne

"The reverse fixture was the first of our campaign in League 2 and on that day we drew 1-1, with an Adebayo Akinfenwa equaliser, although I am hoping for all three points from our trip to Whaddon Road.

"We have been playing fairly well at home recently, although away from home we just cannot stop drawing.

"With our injury-list reducing every day and players like Dennis Oli slowly getting back to full match fitness, it seems like the perfect opportunity to really push for the automatic places and consolidate our position in the play-offs.

"I think that we will finally get the three points at Cheltenham. Recently we have not played superbly and Hess will fire his troops up before kick-off as it is a really vital match, as they all are from here on in."

MALCOLM SMITH

Grimsby

"We have eight games to go and have already been presented with a ‘must-win’ game. The midweek results at Torquay and Stevenage mean that the Gills’ real position is becoming clear and if we have any promotion aspirations then three points are essential on Sunday.

"It is so tight at the top and any one of eight teams could finish between second and ninth. I think it will be a case of who has the nerve to go on and win. Those teams who go on a run now will be promoted, those who falter will be fortunate to make the play-offs.

"Because teams around us have games in hand we are now in the position where a draw will not do.

"Cheltenham will be no pushover though and Gills will need to be at their best to get the win we need. Now is the time when we discover if we really are as good as we hope we are."

Prediction: Cheltenham 1 Gillingham 2

PAUL BLAKELEY

Maidstone

"With Torquay gaining the points midweek things don’t look quite as rosy as they did after the game at Burton. We all knew these teams had the games in hand, but unfortunately they’ve congested up the play-off picture with the Gills dropping down to 7th.

"It’s vital now we start getting a few more wins, especially on the road. I still think automatic promotion is attainable but with other teams showing form and moving up the table, it will be very tough.

"Hopefully some of the other outfield players can start scoring, especially from corners (our long-time weakness) and help turn these draws into much needed three points.

"I think we’ll actually lose, but I can’t predict that, so instead I shall go for win to the Gills!"

Prediction: Cheltenham 1 Gillingham 2

JAMES PEMBLE

Gillingham

"After a disappointing performance away at Burton, I can’t help but think the Gills have to finally break this run of away draws.

"Cheltenham are a decent side but I’m going for a Gills win by a goal."

Prediction: Cheltenham 1 Gillingham 2

RICHARD PEPPER

Manston

"After yet another draw last week, three points are a must every match, home or away. I say every week that on our day we can beat anyone in League 2, however, the players have failed to delivered to the levels we know they are capable of.

"Ultimately, the blame lies with the Gaffer, as sooner or later you have to question our tactics, failure at set-pieces and inability to play the nice passing and controlling football we were two years ago.

"Such is our form that it is impossible to predict just what will happen on the day. We could just as easily win 3-0 as we could draw 0-0, so fingers crossed the boys are on their game and we prevail. Hope to see Martin in at left back for the ineffective Nutter.

"It would be great to see Cody push on towards that 25 mark for the season. Sadly we are due a loss so going for a home win."

Prediction: Cheltenham 2 Gillingham 1

JOHN MUNDY

(Cheltenham fan)

"At the start of the season we would have been happy to settle for a mid-table position, particularly after the mess we were left in following the Martin Allen regime, which went horribly wrong.

"The team has been rebuilt and in January we were up challenging for a play-off place and things were looking much better.

"Unfortunately we’ve only won two in the last 12 and the wheels have come off. Gillingham aren’t winning many away but not losing either so I think the most likely outcome on Sunday will be a draw.

"The one player Gillingham should look out for is Wesley Thomas, who has scored 18 goals so far.

"He is out of contract in the summer and will probably be looking for a move back to London so he will see this as an opportunity to put himself in the shop window.

"He could be dangerous. I would settle for a draw this weekend."

Prediction: Cheltenham 1 Gillingham 1
