Firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats caused by a four-year-old setting his toys alight.

The mother of the boy managed to put out the small fire using pots of water.

It happened at a block flats in Fishermans Hill, Northfleet, on Saturday morning at around 9am.

Nobody was injured.

Firefighters spent approximately 40 minutes at the scene, checking smoke alarms in the block.

They also spoke to the family about the dangers of leaving lighters within the reach of children.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "It's important to keep smoking material out of the reach of children."
