Former Gillingham keeper Jason Brown insists he hasn’t ruled out a move back to Priestfield this summer.

The popular keeper is on the search for regular football after just 16 appearances for Premier League Blackburn in the last five years.

Loan spells at Leeds, Leyton Orient and Cardiff in the last year have given him the hunger to become a number one again, rather than sitting on the bench as an understudy.

Speaking on twitter, Brown, who is now out of contract and a free agent, said: "I love football and I want to play but I’m also a realist and if I have to take one step back then so be it."

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler is understood to have contacted Brown’s agent but no offer has been put to the keeper.

Brown (pictured) said: "Hessy contacted him (my agent) because of the demand from twitter but there is no offer and Hessy has my number."

Brown played for the Gills from March 2001 to the summer of 2006, when he moved to Blackburn. Hopes of a comeback are slim but should he return to Priestfield it would be a huge signing for the club.

Gillingham are still eyeing another keeper, with youngster Daren Hawkes and former Dover keeper Ross Flitney now on the books.
