A FATHER of two has been praised for his bravery after pulling a neighbour out of a burning flat.

Fire chiefs say the neighbour would have died but for the swift action of 32-year-old Ben Mill.

He was on his way home when he got a call from his wife, Lisa, to say a flat was on fire opposite their house in Corporation Road, Gillingham.

Mr Mill made his way to the scene and when he couldn’t find out if anyone was inside or not, he kicked in the door and ran upstairs, through a haze of smoke. He found the man slumped in the living room and dragged him to safety.

The manager of green watch at Medway Fire Station, George Caffery, who attended the fire, said: “Ben’s actions were extremely courageous and he certainly saved the man’s life because he was asleep on the sofa and overcome by fumes.”
